SCOTT, Tom – I am trying to locate african american family members from almost a century ago. My father migrated to West Virginia in the 1920’s (I believe). He came to work for a coal company. My father’s name was Tom Scott and he was born in Bessemer, Alabama He was related to Sam Rose and Susie Rose of Bessemer Alabama. They were his aunt and uncle. They passed away in the late 60’s. Tom Scott’s father’s name was Tom Jones and his mothers name was Lula Jones. He was raised by his grandmother (I do not know her name). If anyone has any ideas as how I may trace some family lineage He never had a birth certificate. They had to create one for him when he got to West Virginia when he received his social security. I have no records at all to go on. He did say he had sisters, never mentioned any brothers and picked cotton as his mother and grandmother were sharecroppers. His father did have another family up the road he would say when I was a little girl. This is all the information I have. I would be very grateful. Please contact me at ginthom@yahoo.com Thanks. In 1870 census, Perlimner Winfield STRATTON and his older brother, Henry (Jr.), were living with Charles and Martha COLEMAN near Big Pond.
